Mr Jonson, your letter was spot on. I was a banker who saw bank recovery teams destroy businesses and their owners. Is it all going to happen again? How would an economic shock affect the business sector, particularly if households start to feverishly repay their heavy debts? The banks would, no doubt, redeploy the old recovery Nazzis (who only understand loan-to-valuation ratios) to comb over consumer and business portfolios to select their poor victims. Back to the future!

Wonderful to hear of Henry's recovery but, as one of the two lunch companions, I must say that if he ever tries to struggle on manfully while in distress, I wont be overly pleased.

Glad to hear that the Epworth did the job - my experiences with the US system were not so positive. After a stress related stomach/gastric complaint, I was forced to relax and endure the snap of the rubber glove. The bill and frustration of subsequent dealings with insurance company were the second thing about that particular chain of events that made my eyes pop.

Free movement of people sounds OK but it impacts on the society we already have. A million muzzies arriving here would see mosques galore everywhere ... this is not the ambiance most australians want. This is just one example.

A better idea for Australia is to actively promote the migration to Australia of mainstream Christians. Color doesn't matter, but culture does. Christians would continue to fit in here as they have been doing since 1788...without problems.

I am not sure, but whether the AMA, the ACTU and other like minded groups, the opposition to novelty, whether scientific or business, seems implacable. Conservative - definitely. Opposition to competition, whether in idea or otherwise, implacably. And being a tall poppy without having gone and returned, is no different. Australia has never had a period of an unhampered market. That is our history and our problem.

Without getting technical, it is the same as a circular reference in a spreadsheet. And "Shit Happens" is not an explanation but a statement, and hardly an answer. The Reserve's problem is itself, reacting to its own prescriptions coupled with a severe case of alzheimer's.

Glad to hear about the extra money coming down the pipe for help to small business for research and exports...this is real socialism in action, eh Henry?

Why do australian businessmen not want any government involvement in labour issues but want mucho government involvement in funding research and exports?

The Head of HR cries 'get outta my way!' but the Head of R&D cries 'come on down, with your check book and regulations"!

What exactly is 'FREE enterprise'?

Can you explain this, Henry?
