ALL CONTRIBUTORS
Henry Thornton - Contributors: A discussion of economic, social and political issues Louis Hissink
Louis Hissink (MSc, Macquarie University) is a consulting diamond geologist, formerly of John Taylors, Western Mining Corporation Ltd and De Beers. He has worked for other companies but embarrassment precludes their identification.

Louis was recently made Editor of the Australian Institute of Geoscientists Newsletter

Usually found during the winter months somewhere out in the far Kimberley in northern Western Australia living out of a swag with his 4WD motor bike looking for diamond pipes, or more recently in the goldfields of WA.

His free time is spent researching ancient history, writing comments on environmental or mining matters and, as frequently happens, re-installing the operating system on the computer. He is a book worm and writes book reviews for Henry

Having forced myself last night to watch Gore's Address via the webcast, I have never watched such inaccurate, emotive, false and misleading propaganda. Michael Crichton is dead right - it is a religious belief, and thus unchallengeable. OMG :-(

We define a new term - "geoligist", geologist who is employed by Blue Sky Mines NL types, and prone to dodgy ore reserves, over optimistic project evaluations and other nefarious activities often described by Pierpont in his capacity as a director of Blue Sky Mines NL.

I wonder why the shortage of geos does not show up in the job adds. There sure is a huge shortage of exp drillers. The world's 2nd largest contactor was only doing 30m/day RC in Erritrea.

Plenty of young geologists, but none want to do field work. De Beers cannot find field geologists, for example, and one young geo I know got a job in Kalgoorlie because no one else wanted to go to Kal. But generally this is the ground noise in the industry.

As is always the case, after one writes the article, new data come along to add further weight to the argument - it now seems that our climate changers have been cooking the books since 1938 - read this paper here. The site has a link to the pds document.

Clearly no one has questioned my figure 0.33% CO2 by volume - actually it is 0.033% CO2 in the earth's atmosphere by volume - which makes the effect even more trivial.

It seems from the lack of reaction that any statement on global warming and signing or not signing Kyoto seems not to affect anyone.

This is what I suspected - it has been overplayed so that any comment is now ignored.

I wonder if this means that like its predecessor global cooling, it might silently implode?

Fingers crossed.

What a story. We need more of the same. The very existence of civilisation depends upon vastly increasing the numbers of people who think the way you do, Louis. Otherwise, we really are doomed. The way that our society is "thinking" is self-destructive. You've hit a lot of nails on the head.

The Holocaust was foot and moth disease - so this reviewer obviously must have had a mild case while writing the review.

Of course whether foot in mouth or mad cow, the procedures would not have been any different.

Good on Louis, very informing but perhaps as good geos know, earth solves the CO2 problem (too much of it)rather easily by precipitating limestone. God I love driving my V8.
